Mission Statement
“To enhance Community Wellbeing for all people in Wainuiomata”
The Wainuiomata Community Centre Incorporated Society is a non-profit organisation set up in 1995 to provide a focal point for social services and activities in Wainuiomata. Our focus is on community development and providing services and activities that will meet the needs and enhance the life of our community in general.
The Community Centre’s initiatives include; community education, ICT access, youth programmes, community radio station, senior citizens activities, parenting, health and more. We also provide a venue for a variety of community groups that offer a range of activities to all ethnic groups.
The Community Centre is governed by a committee of 8 volunteers referred to as the Governance Board. The Governance Board is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation.
The Centre Manager is employed by the Governance Board to take care of the day to day operations of the Centre. Other staff may include accounts/administration, Youth support worker and or customer support.
Our Aim
The aim of the Society is to provide a range of programmes and services that will benefit all people in our community.
Our Guiding Principles
The Society shall:
Provide access to social activities and services which are meaningful to individuals and groups in the Wainuiomata community
Ensure it is viewed as a worthwhile organisation working for the common good of the Wainuiomata community.
Ensure the Society is run according to the Society’s Code of Ethics.
Be ethically and culturally sensitive and accepting of all people.
Support the spirit of the Te Tiriti O Waitangi and to work in partnership with tangata whenua groups and interests.
Our Objectives To provide a warm, friendly, welcoming environment
To offer learning opportunities
To provide access to relevant information linking people to appropriate community resources
To manage resources effectively so as to ensure the ongoing provision and development of high quality services.
To enhance job satisfaction of volunteers and paid workers associated with the Society.
To liaise, support and network with other community organisations.
To maintain close links with relevant division’s of the Hutt City Council; and To do all such other things that will further the charitable objectives of the Society.
Governance
The Wainuiomata Community Centre is overseen by a Governance Board established from volunteers within our community. The Governance Board meet on a regular basis and are responsible for the overall strategic direction of the Centre. The objective of the Board is to ensure that the purposes and aims of The Wainuiomata Community Centre are met, and that the services offered are effective and relevant to the changing needs of the community.
